Tema — SEVENTEEN PERSONS, believed to be members of a group of gangsters, suspected to be duping the unsuspecting public on the Internet are in the grips of the Tema police.

The 17 were arrested by the Tema regional police command in collaboration with a detachment of Police Headquarters Panthers Unit and Military Patrol Team in two separate swoops at the Coastal Estates and Community 18 (Batsonaa), both suburbs of Tema.

This was contained in a press statement, dated December 3, 2007, signed by the Regional Public Affairs Officer, Chief Inspector Yaw Nketia-Yeboah.

Seven of them; Vincent Dennis - 25, Gabriel Ojugo - 28, Franklin Anana - 29, Kingsley Osu Eto - 30, Aniekom Olumba - 31, Anthony Achibong - 29 and Patrick Achibong - 34 were all arrested last Saturday by personnel from the Tema regional police command and Panthers unit from the headquarters.

The rest Freeborn Mukore - 35, Agise Billy - 23, Johnson Yomi - 23, Blessing Sapilo - 34, Emmanuel Owos - 21, Kingsley Silprako - 25, Williams Uche - 37, Paul Adams - 23, Ezekiel Ufuoma - 32 and Sisan Oebaro - 30 were also picked up the following day from a rented house at Community 18 by the Tema police and the Military patrol team.

Four stamps believed to have been smuggled or duplicated from the Office of the President, Ministry of Finance, Bank of Ghana (BOG) and the International Commercial Bank (ICB) were retrieved from the Coastal Estates raid.

The team also retrieved from suspects a wireless GPRS modem and its memory, 10 mobile phones, three wrist-watches, GH„"17,000.00, US$300.00, six floppy diskettes, one pen drive, five laptops and two monitors.

A quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, two system units, one fax machine, one printer, two keyboards, three saloon cars including; Toyota Solara (GW 2826 W), Lexus 50 (GS 254 Y) and VW Jetta (GS 1491 Y) were also retrieved in the process.

In the Community 18 (Batsonaa) swoop, the police retrieved 16 mobile phones, two Nigerian passports, two laptops and their accessories, two saloon cars including, Toyota Camry (GT 7162 T) and Toyota Corolla (GR 753 Y).

According to the release, all the 17 suspects would be screened with those found culpable set to be arraigned before court, while investigations into the case continues.

Meanwhile, the Tema Regional Police Command has appealed to the general public to volunteer information on all cases pending before the police and other courts throughout the metropolis.

It has also called on the general public to be wary of people who come to them or post messages to them on the Internet with the view of giving them big monies since most of such people Internet fraudsters.
