Kenya: Thousands of Jobs Lost Due to Logging

Nairobi — The Government banned logging in 1999 ostensibly to protect the country's closed canopy forest estimated at only two per cent.

The timber industry at the time was sustaining more than 30,000 employees in the logging fields and others who worked in the sawmills.
