Bujumbura — After the rise of the price of oil, the ticket price has also increased. The ticket for collective taxis grew by 30 francs and reached 250 francs.
This increase followed a short demonstration of collective taxis drivers who stopped their activities yesterday morning. The decision to raise the ticket price was a concerted one. The ministry of commerce and industries met private transporters yesterday.
This is for the second time that ticket price has risen during this year. Slowly, the government is snatching with left hand what it gave with the right one. Promises for the betterment of life that has repeatedly been announced by the head of state have not been implemented. Few of the things that the head of state has promised have been implemented. Prices of beverages, electricity, water, sugar and other first commodities have increased.
The chairman of Observatory for the Fight against Corruption and Economic Embezzlement (OLUCOME), Gabriel Rufyiri, advises that Burundi should have stocks of strategy. He reveals that although that the Special Oil Funds is supposed to be inoperative, the government of Burundi continues to channel funds to it which are afterwards embezzled.
