Bujumbura

Two informants of the National Intelligence Services were killed on 12 December 2007 in Kinama commune.

They were killed in a night attack which targeted them only as they were drinking beer in Muyinga quarter of the same commune at pub called Nganda Relax. Those responsible of this attack have not yet been arrested. Kinama is one of the communes of Bujumbura where FNL-PALIPEHUTU combatants were hunted by the National Intelligence Services shortly after CNDD-FDD came to power.

In another development, robbers were arrested at Rutana early this week as they were planning a hold-up one of banks established at Gihofi. Officers of the National Intelligence Services and foreigners were also part of the gang. The police arrested them also in connection with the death of Brand Ndarishikaye, a money changer who was killed on Monday 3 December by people in military uniforms. The burial of Ndarishikanye was preceded by a procession during which ideas that remind the slipping of power from Ntibantukanya were expressed. Mourners said â-šwe refuse to be under protection of those who kill."

Currently, each day's developments read as a churchyard. Two persons were killed this morning at Gasenyi by the police. The police declared that the victims constitute a gang of robbers who were planning to steal a vehicle. Two persons who were along with the victims have been arrested.

The surge of violence is also sweeping the countryside. A man and a woman were killed yesterday at Transversal five at Gihanga by unidentified persons. In Kirundo province, a local trader was killed along with his wife and child as they were going back home.
