Uganda: Army Kills DR Congo Soldier

UPDF soldiers have killed a Congolese soldier and injured another who entered Uganda through Kanungu District and raped two children.

The incident took place in Nyondo Hills in Kayonza Sub-county on Wednesday.

The 2nd Division army spokesman, Lt. Tabaaro Kiconco, said the two soldiers belonged to the Buramba detach of 63rd battalion of the Democratic Republic of Congo army.

He said the two girls aged between 14 and 16 were raped at gunpoint and sustained injuries as they resisted rape. He said the victims are admitted in Bwindi Health Centre receiving treatment.

The children were harvesting potatoes with others who managed to run away and alerted the army stationed in the area. "Our troops decided to put them out of action when they (Congolese) shot at our soldiers and killed one who was later identified as Sergeant Mumbere Rule, he was identified by his commander Maj Joseph Kanku of the Congolese army, " he said.

He said Rule's accomplice escaped with injuries and is now hospitalised in Nyamirima Hospital in DRC. He said criminals DR Congo soldiers have of recent have made it a habit of coming to Uganda to steal food.
