15 December 2007

Eyessuswork Zafu, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (AACCSA), was elected for a second term at the third general assembly of the organization held Thursday at the Addis Ababa Hilton.

Eyessuswork Zafu, managing director of the United Insurance and board member of the United Bank, was vice president of AACCSA in 2004-2005 while Brehane Mewa was president. In August 2005, Eyessuswork Zafu was elected president of AACCSA. At that time he was the only candidate who ran for the presidency.

For the second time, this year, Eyessuswork was the sole candidate for the presidency. He won 162 votes. Fourteen people were nominated for the presidency. But all of the candidates refused to run for the presidency for different reasons. Eleven of them were nominated for board membership.

After evaluating the nominees, the election coordinating committee chaired by Moges Alemu, owner and CEO of MA plastics, selected 18 finalists. Six of the 18 candidates were elected board members. Workeshet Bekele, owner of Worbek Building, Nigussie Abera, head of the project and business development with MIDROC Ethiopia, Addisu Hamba general manager of the Construction and Business Bank and also president of the Ethiopian Banks Association, are some of the new board members.

The chamber did not elect a vice president and four board members. These officials who represent the Addis Ababa Sectoral Associations, were elected for a three-year term and they will stay in office for another one year.
