Burundi: Burundi Tips Players On Bankruptcy

Bujumbura — The Government of Burundi under the guidance of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism has embarked on a judicial review.

In a workshop held in Bujumbura recently, participants drawn from the ministry of finance, ministry of justice, private entrepreneurs, Burundi Employers Association and the press were presented with the new and updated law on bankruptcy.

The aim of the workshop was to popularize, discuss the content and application of the new law. The main discussant at the workshop was Professor Stanislas Makroroka. He was the main architect of the new law.

The workshop was facilitated by Projet d'Appui a la Gestion Economique (PAGE).

PAGE manages a World Bank Credit of US$26 m to last a period of 5 years. It uses these funds to run three major activities namely; Strengthening the Macro Economic Management, increase transparency of public financial management, support the development of the private sector and promote good governance and justice. The new law on bankruptcy and legal protection was enacted in March 2006.
