The Office of Auditor General drew up a 5-year strategic plan for the period 2007-2011 on the basis of its internal capacity, according to Gerezgher Gebremedhin, director general of the Audit Department. He said that it took about 6 months to prepare the plan.

Indicating that the International Supreme Audit Institution (INTOSAI) nominated Eritrea, Kenya, Switzerland, Mauritius and Gambia to prepare a strategic plan at an international level, Mr. Gerezgher pointed out that the plan Eritrea has drawn up is believed to be the best, and this was officially disclosed at a meeting held in Switzerland.

He further noted that Eritrea was cited as being exemplary and shared its experience at a meeting that was organized by the INTOSAI, in which 23 Caribbean countries participated. Mr. Gerezgher went on to emphasize the significance of mapping out long-term strategies in management efficiency.

It is to be noted that the Auditor General's office was established in 1992 and at present it has 68 staff members, of whom 56 are auditors.
