Tizo, real name Thabo Bimbo, started his music career at a very early age in Tsabong in the Kgalagadi district. He was then a member of a local Sunday school choir.
He and a few friends later formed a group they called Tsotsi Jents. But the group soon disbanded due to financial constraints. Bimbo decided to move to Gaborone in search of a recording deal in January of 2006.
After "a couple of months of hustling", he met with Mr Tagg, producer and owner of Real Deal Records, where he was immediately roped in to do backing vocals for various artists under the stable. At the end of 2006, he was finally offered a recording deal, which he took up and started recording his album titled Lekgwatlha.
The album was recorded in a very short time and when the first singles were put on radio, they were not well received, so the album was shelved. So it was back to the drawing board to cook some new and fresh tracks, he recalls. In April this year, the album, with the same title, was released. But once again the product was not well received. That is when Mr Tagg approached So Hype Records to sign and record Tizo.
After careful consideration, Tizo was offered a contract as a recording artist. He was immediately put to work in the studio where he worked with the likes of Afro-jazz king Shanti Lo and another renowned Afro jazz artist Punah, kwaito's current vibration T.H.A.B.O, and traditional dance group Diphala. The album, which is doing well on the market, was released at the end of August in Botswana and will be released to the rest of Africa early in the new year.
The album entitled It's On contains 10 slamming kwaito tunes; Ao Gish, Pelo Robala, Summer Time, Accelerator, Bo Tsotsi, Ka Letsatsi La Bofelo, Plekke ena, Serobaroba, Special Star and The Last One. Tizo chose to go with a tried and tested hoarse voice like Mandoza, Vee, Ghavorr, Mingo and Mapetla. The beats are nice and it will be interesting to see how the public will receive him.

Puna features on the infectious Pelo Robala that was produced by the legendary Stain Phiri, while T.HA.B.O. features on Accelerator and actually almost steals the thunder from Tizo on this tune, and Shanti Lo features on Special Star. This is one of the best productions from So Hype Records, which is well known for its success with T-Joint, Shanti Lo and Diphala.
