Bujumbura — Major Jean-Bosco Nsabimana, also known as Maregarege, revealed that chiefs of the National Intelligence Services are behind the growing trend of armed robbery. He is now in hiding after the police failed to arrest him. Mr. Nsabimana says that he was dispatched on various missions, including one into the central prison, where he had orders to kill Hussein Radjabu, the former leader of the ruling party. He also witnessed acts of torture that Kadege, Guerilloros and Déo underwent while they were detained in the national intelligence services custody under allegations that they were plotting against the Head of State.
The revelations of Major Nsabimana constitute direct accusation against the chief of the national intelligence services. The intelligence services have denied all the allegations that Major Nsabimana was arrested and jailed because he was a robber.
Major Maregerage was cited in connection with the arrest of seven robbers who were planning a holdup at Rutana. Two of the robbers were agents of the national intelligence services. The national intelligence services are a department of the national police which works under The President of the Republic.
The National Intelligence Services are dogged by a number of crimes including the killings of suspected FNL supporters in Kinama district of Bujumbura and in Muyinga province
