Nigeria: Zamfara Wages War On Truancy

Gusau — Zamfara State government has threatened to take drastic measures against truants in public schools in the state. The Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Muhammad Danjari, said this during an unscheduled visit to Usman Nagwaggo Secondary School, Bungudu Local Government Area, recently, where he found more than half of the students and principal of the junior section absent at the morning assembly.

He decried the level at which majority of the students were loitering outside the school at a time they were supposed to be on the assembly ground, adding that as leaders of tomorrow, they should be made to respect time. The menace of truancy, if left unchecked, will undermine teaching and learning, he said.
