Eritrea: Eid Al-Adha Celebrated Nationwide

Eid Al-Adha was colorfully celebrated across the nation today.

In a gathering held at Bahti Meskerem Square tens of thousands of followers of the Islamic Faith headed by Sheik Salim Ibrahim, Chief Administrator of the Office of the Eritrean Mufti, conducted prayers. Sheik Salim Ibrahim called on nationals to visit and extend a helping hand to needy compatriots and children of martyrs.

In subsequent celebrations held at the Ma'ehad here in the capital in which senior government officials, ministers, diplomats and other invited guests took part, the Eritrean Mufti, Sheik Al-Amin Osman, wished the entire Eritrean people happy Eid Al-Adha and peace and prosperity. He underlined that it is the responsibility of every citizen to safeguard the nation's sovereignty.

Noting that the secret of the Eritrean people's victory is its firm unity, tolerance and steadfastness, Sheik Al-Amin expressed hid strong conviction that the Eritrean people would emerge victorious as ever through resolutely meeting all challenges encountering.

He further wished goodwill and success to all youths who are actively engaged in development activities and safeguarding the nation's sovereignty. Stressing the need to reinforce the cherished Eritrean culture and value of cooperation and tolerance, Sheik Al-Amin called on nationals to enhance their contribution in national development endeavors.

Meanwhile, Eid-Al-Adha was colorfully celebrated together with war-disabled citizens at the Denden Camp that was organized jointly by the Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare. The program was transmitted live via ERI-TV and Dimtsi Hafash.

Speaking at the celebrations, Mr. Mihretab Fisihaye, director general of social security in the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare, said that this year's Eid Al-Adha observance is special as it is being celebrated at a time when the infrastructure development drive is being stepped up to achieve food security.
