Kigali — The National Bank of Rwanda (BNR) has issued and announced new denomination of Frw2000 currency note. The new note is violet in colour.

The Governor of the central bank, Francois Kanimba, has said yesterday that the note is already in circulation.

"When we realised the need to have a new denomination on the market, the central bank presented a proposal to the Cabinet, and it was approved," Kanimba said.

He said the tender to print the new note was won and implemented by a Belgian company, De La Rue Currency and Security Print Ltd.

De La Rue finished printing the banknotes last week and BNR requested the cabinet to circulate the notes, Kanimba said.

"The cabinet verified the new note and gave us a go ahead to circulate it; it's now in circulation allover the country," he added.

Kanimba emphasised that the printing of the new denomination is aimed at facilitating transaction and increase utility value among the users.

The size of the new note is 142x 72 millimeters and some of the features it has include Rwanda's Coat of Arms and the electrotype element representing the logo of BNR.

Other advanced security features on the recto side that can be seen on the denomination include the communications Athena with a satellite dish on its bottom, while the face value is written horizontally on the lower left corner and in the upper right.

The signatures of the governor and the vice governor are printed on upper part just below words 'BANKI NKURU Y'U RWANDA' (The National Bank of Rwanda).

Security features on the recto side include a see-through register made up of the number 2000 in the lower right corner, the anticopy element 'lead' type crossing the note on the left side with the inscription BNR, the number 2000 and the coat or arms.

It also has microlettering written just about the words 'AMAFARANGA IBIHUMBI BIBIRI' (Two hundred thousand). The date of issue of the new note is October 31, 2007.

The verso side of the note is characterised by a big pile of coffee beans, while the face value is written horizontally in the upper left corner and in the lower right corner.
