Addis Ababa — Christian Blind Mission (CBM) opens tonight a photo exhibition entitled "From prevention of blindness to rights-based approach for persons with disabilities! 100 years of global experience and 40 years in Ethiopia", at the Hilton Addis.
The exhibition traces CBM's 40 years of service to persons with disabilities in Ethiopia. It will be open to the public as of tomorrow. CBM has been opening eye units in hospitals in the Amhara and Oromia regional states to restore sight to those affected by trachoma and cataract.
Last year, CBM opened an eye unit at the Debre Markos Hospital and now it is going to launch the same unit in Chiro Hospital, East Hararge in the Oromia region and has laid the foundation stone for an eye clinic in Woldya in the Amhara region.
CBM works in partnership with universities, health bureaus, churches, hospitals, schools and special needs institutions in the Oromia, SNNP, and Amhara regional states. It supplies special needs schools with braille books, trains teachers and provides visually-impaired students in boarding schools with food, clothings and health services.
Founded a hundred years ago by a German pastor, Ernst J. Christoffel, CBM has now become an international organization with member associations in Germany, USA, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Belgium, UK, Italy, New Zealand and Ireland.
Currently, CBM supports 1,005 projects in 113 countries.
