Ethiopia: PWDs Call for Enabling Environment to Take Own Part in Nation's Development

In a bid to fully enroll in efforts of the country's development by scoring a significant achievement as citizens, Persons living with Disabilities should have an enabling work environment, an official from the Land mine Survivors Network (LSN) urged concerned bodies on Tuesday.
Speaking at a half day get together event organized by the network, Bekele Gonfa Director of LSN noted that rights of disabled persons in the constitution should be fully recognized and activated in such a way that they can share their own parts in the nation's development efforts.
He said elaborating the fact that employment opportunity for PWDs, equal to those of other citizens should be respected in order to abolish the existing stigma towards these people.
"There are persons without hands or legs that can achieve incredible miraculous feats as opposed to those with fully functional hands and legs. Hence, those of you present here as well as those who are not in our midst should keep in mind that you can perform miracles", the director told over 100 participants of the gathering at the Eden Garden here.

He also stressed that the new concession put forward to the government should be given high priority and put into action.
Also present at the event, Amaha Berhe representative of the ministry and social affairs on his part said that the government in its effort to encourage the achievements of the disabled was in the process of adjusting policies and amendments to further help them in their endeavor.
He further said that these policies would be active in the near future and would help them succeed in their efforts to be active participants of the country's development work.
