Nigeria: Mark, Bankole, Kutigi Make 2007 Honours List

Abuja — President Umaru Yar'Adua has approved the conferment of Nigerian National Honours on 211 Nigerians and friends of Nigeria.

According to a statement yesterday by the secretary to the government of the federation, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, no one will get the highest honourof the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR).

The statement however said only two persons will be conferred with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, the second highest-ranking honour.

Eleven persons would be conferred with the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR), while 16 persons would be conferred with the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).

Twenty-four persons would bag the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR), while 84 would bag the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), the Kingibe said,adding that Forty-two persons would be honoured with the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), while 18 persons would be honoured with the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) honour.

Senate President David Mark and Chief Justice of Nigeria(CJN), Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi are those to be conferred with GCON.
