In line with the Government's vigorous efforts to boost agricultural output through introducing modern farming methods, 27 macro and micro-dams, as well as water reservoirs, have been constructed in the Southern region this year.

The head of the Ministry of Agriculture branch in the region, Mr. Bahta Tedros, stated that the construction of 11 dams and 7 water reservoirs, as well as the renovation of 9 micro-dams, has been undertaken through the collaboration of the regional administration, Biddho Construction Company, the general public and members of the Defense Force. He added that the construction of the facilities would play a major role in easing of potable water supply problems and enhancing the development of agricultural infrastructure.

The Administrator of the Emni-Haili sub-zone, Mrs. Luul Asrat, indicated that the inhabitants of 4 administrative areas in the sub-zone have now access to potable water and are engaging in irrigation farming thanks to the construction of a micro-dam and the repair of another one, as well as a water reservoir.
