Angola: Cuban Ambassador Considers Announcement of Polls Date Important

Luanda — The Cuban ambassador to Angola, Pedro Rosso Leal, on Thursday considered as important step the announcement of the holding of the legislative elections in Angola, for 05-06 September 2008, by President Jose Eduardo dos Santos, ANGOP has learnt.

The diplomat said so during a press conference held to assess the bilateral ties between Angola and Cuba.

In his opinion, this act represents the desire of the Angolan government to fulfil what is outlined in the peace accords.

"By announcing today (Thursday) the holding of the elections for September 05-06, 2008, President José Eduardo Dos Santos shows that peace in Angola is strengthened and as representatives of Cuba in this African country we are happy with this fact", he said.

The Angolan Head of State, Jose Eduardo dos Santos, announced on Thursday that the parliamentary elections will be held on September 05-06, 2008.
