South Africa: Trauma Patients Increase in KZN Hospitals

KwaZulu-Natal — The number of patients admitted for trauma in KwaZulu-Natal's major hospitals has sky-rocketed since the start of the festive season, the provincial health department said on Sunday.

"Since the beginning of the festive season 2895 trauma patients have been admitted in our major hospitals." "These include 606 assault cases, 28 gun shot victims, 312 stab victims, 75 rape survivors - 20 of these being children, 48 drunk drivers and 442 motor vehicle accident cases," This was said during the visit by the Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang and MEC for Health Neliswa Nkonyeni to King Edward Hospital, on Sunday.
