Tanzania: Zanzibar to Set Up Football Academy

Zanzibar — The Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar is set to build a soccer academy in the Urban West region. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, the deputy minister for Information, Culture and Sports told the media late last week that the academy will be operated by Christian Cassanova, a French national.The French organiser's contribution in development of soccer talent worldwide is well documented, he stated.

The whole idea of setting up the project is to groom talents in the Isles and eventually to help promote soccer, he said.The major objective of the academy is to groom talents and start exporting soccer players in the future, he said. Having an academy would also ease talent scouting which is at present ineffective, he said.
