Zimbabwe: Artists Residency Programme Launched

Harare — DOMBORAMWARI Art Village has launched a residency programme for artists that run after every three months.

The programme will see artists from countries such as South Africa, Zambia, Nigeria, Botswana, Ghana and France taking part in the cultural exchange programmes.

Mambakwedza Mutasa, the co-ordinator of the village, said they held a successful exchange programme through sponsorship from the Prince Claus Foundation and Ford Foundation.

"Our last residency programme which was opened by Titus Chipangura, (the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe director) was well received. We managed to host 17 artists from different country's," Mutasa said.

The artists took part in the exhibition called "Judgment" which showcased mixed media from ceramics, sculpture to paintings.

Mutasa was happy that the art village was not part of the Triangle Network, a group of art institutions that run the residency programmes in the world.

"Zimbabwe is now on the world map as one of the countries that run professional residency programme," Mutasa said.

Domboramwari Art Village offers an opportunity for artists to engage with other artists thereby promoting growth in creativity and allowing an exchange of energies and motivation.

The art village is a non-profit organisation that seeks to provide visual arts through workshops and artists residence programme as well as providing platforms conducive to artists working in all art disciplines and diverse cultural backgrounds.
