Zimbabwe: 'Moyo Fit, Raring to Go'

1 January 2008

Harare — SUNGURA musician Tongai Moyo, who has been unwell for sometime, is reportedly fit and raring to go.

The Kwekwe-based musician's public relations manager Pliers Paureni said Tongai was fit when he went to the United Kingdom where he staged two shows.

"I can confirm that Tongai is now fit and is ready to do a series of countrywide shows.

"He has fully recovered and the reason why he is conducting shows when most musicians are taking a break is that he had short-changed fans at the start of the festive season but he is now ready to perform," Paureni said.

Tongai, who left the country with Allan Chimbetu for two shows in the UK is expected, to stage a homecoming show this Friday.

Dhewa, is also billed to play at the Large City Hall in Bulawayo where he will share the stage with Chimbetu.

The 1990s sensation Assegai Crew who introduced the Reggae Manyika rhythm with hits such as Kanyama Karipi and Mabororo Disaster will support the two musicians.

After making waves in the capital, Girls la Musica dance group will be returning to their roots in the company of Tongai, Allan and Assegai where they will provide the much needed catchy dances.

On Saturday night, they all pack for Zvishavane Mine where they are billed to perform at Maglas Hall.

It would be the first appearance for Girls la Musica at Maglas Hall while Allan, Assegai and Tongai would be carrying out one of their routines as they have played at the joint before. Show promoter Fanuel Madzvamuse said the series of shows was meant to make Tongai's fans know that he was still going strong and still performing.

"We felt that Tongai should not take a break after his UK tour as people would easily count him out.

"He had a fever of late and if he does not hold live shows, music lovers would easily count him out -- so he has to prove that he is still Muchina Muhombe (the big engine)," Madzvamuse said.
