Zambia: 2 Crushed to Death in Kitwe

TWO people in Kitwe were crushed to death by a truck in the early hours of yesterday. Kitwe Town Clerk, Ali Simwinga said the two were crushed by a truck before another on-coming truck overran them near Blackwood Hodge around 03.00 hours.

Mr Simwinga said one of the deceased has been identified as Steven Kambiwe, while the other one was yet to be identified.

"Yes, I can confirm that two men were crushed to death near Blackwood Hodge around 03.00 hours. One of the crushed men is Steven Kambiwe, while the other one is yet to be identified.

"What happened was that the two were crushed by a truck and the other on-coming truck overran them. But the question is, what were these people doing when they were crushed by the trucks,?" Mr Simwinga said.

And Mr Simwinga has said a Kitwe businessman and proprietor of Provident Investment, Yotham Mulambya has died.

Mr Simwinga said Mr Mulambya died yesterday and the funeral is being held at his residence in Riverside residential area off Almalik street.

Meanwhile, Mr Simwinga disclosed that 11 people were rushed to Kitwe Central Hospital (KCH) after they were involved in a road traffic accident near Kamfinsa mission after the driver of the Ndola-bound minibus lost control.

And Ndola Central Hospital admitted six patients that were involved in road traffic accidents on the eve of the new year.

Speaking in an interview yesterday, manager for the casualty department who was the hospital day superintendent for yesterday, Saul Banda said of the six that were admitted, five had been discharged and one was still in hospital.

He said the patient that was still in hospital had fractures in his toes but his condition was stable.
