London — Planning boobs marred Allan Chimbetu and Tongai Moyo's joint end of the year United Kingdom shows.
The pair travelled to the UK without some of their band members which affected their performances as the promoter was said to have failed to meet the high prices of tickets during the festive season to pay for the group members. It is understood that the promoters misled the UK fans by running adverts in the electronic media that made false impression that tickets were being sold through agents in Northampton, Leeds, Coventry and Birmingham. It turned out that there were no such pre-show tickets sales. Then one of the shows billed for Friday 28 December in Leeds was postponed indefinitely.
An irate fan could not hide his disappointment at the planning boobs. He said he only learnt on his way to the venue that the show in Leeds had been cancelled. "It was wrong for promoters to underfund musicians, as fans would blame musicians for poor performance yet they did not have manpower," he said. Efforts to speak to one of the spokesperson of MJ Promotions, Mr Job Magugu were fruitless at the time of going to Press. He asked this reporter to call later because "he was speaking to someone from Kumusha (home)".
Speaking in separate interviews in Leicester on Saturday, Chimbetu and Moyo were evasive in their responses. Moyo said he was happy with the support he got. He expressed his gratitude for sharing the stage with Chimbetu whom he described as a force to reckon with. They jointly performed Saina, the late Simon Chimbetu's hit song. Chimbetu lamented that he felt very lonely and sad after the death of his brothers. However, he expressed optimism from the support he was getting from Dendera fans, which he felt was very consoling. Chimbetu and Moyo were expected in the country yesterday. Meanwhile, Moyo and Chimbetu will stage two welcome shows before Moyo takes a seasonal break. The two musicians will share the stage at the Large City Hall in Bulawayo tomorrow night.
On Saturday, they move to Zvishavane where they play at Maglass Hall in the mining town. Again, Assegai Crew and Girls la Musica will support the two musicians.
