A lecture with the theme "Colonial Resistance" will be held this Thursday, in the Liga Africana civic centre, in Luanda, as part of the commemorations of the Baixa de Kassanje Martyrs Day (also called Martyrs of the Resistance against Colonial Repression), to be marked on 04 January.

The gathering is scheduled for 04:00 pm and the main speaker will be the university lecturer Fernando Gamboa.

According to a note received by ANGOP, the event is an initiative of the Luanda Provincial Government (GPL)'s permanent commission for the main holidays and official commemorations.

Still in the framework of this programme, a pilgrimage to Luanda's Santa Ana Cemetery took place this Thursday to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, in tribute to the martyrs of the Baixa de Kassanje locality.

January 04 is a national holiday in memory of the hundreds of thousands of Angolans that were killed, on that date in the early 1960s, by troops of the then Portuguese colonial regime, in the Baixa de Kassanje region (centre-east Angola).
