Bujumbura

Violence continues to escalate in Bubanza province. Yesterday morning a minibus fell into an ambush that was laid at Musigati. The passengers were robbed of all their belongings.

The ambush was laid by six armed combatants who afterwards fled into the Kibira forest. Administrative sources indicate that those who laid the ambush were PALIPEHUTU-FNL combatants.

Incidents that recall the war continue to take place in various communes of Bubanza and Bujumbura provinces where FNL combatants have resumed using force in collecting their contributions. Despite this situation, the ruling party does not seem to be eager to find a solution.

CNDD-FDD is still opposed to the parliament's decision to set up a commission that would analyse the disagreements that arose in the talks between PALIPEHUTU-FNL and the government of Burundi.
