LIFE is gradually getting back to normal as more fuel arrived into the country. On Monday night a shipment of about 387,000 litres arrived at Port Bell from Mwanza.
Yesterday night, another consignment of 21 wagons worth over 1 million litres was expected at Port Bell port in Luzira. Energy Minister Daudi Migereko, in an interview with Daily Monitor yesterday said "The ship left Mwanza on Tuesday at 4:00am and is expected at Port Bell at 9:00 pm. The situation has tremendously improved. "
He added that another 82 trucks were reported to have arrived by railway from Mombasa via Malaba route. This follows a decision by Kenya's opposition leader Raila Odinga to call off planned nationwide protests that had disrupted fuel supply in the wake of the post-presidential election violence in Kenya. The disruption in supply triggered a sharp increase in pump prices countrywide.
By close of business yesterday, most filling stations countrywide had recieved fuel and pump prices remained relatively low compared to last week's Shs10, 000 per litre. A litre of petrol is selling at Shs2,500 and diesel Shs2, 300 although motorists still have to queue to get their share.

Fuel dealers reported more supplies, arguing that the situation would get back to normal soon. "We continue to receive more fuel mainly from Nairobi and Kisumu and later this afternoon we are expecting some fuel from Mwanza at port Bell, " Shell Uganda Country Manager Ivan Kyayonka said yesterday.
Yesterday, Daily Monitor continued with its impromptu survey, which revealed that the price of petrol at fuel pumps around the city had reduced drastically to between Shs2500 and Shs3500 while diesel was selling at between Shs2,300 to Shs2,500.
The availability of fuel at many stations reduced congestion and traffic jam at filling stations.
