Bujumbura — Frodebu party has called on the head of state to appoint a new mayor of the city of Bujumbura. The new candidate should be presented to the senate for approval.
The President of FRODEBU, Hon. Léonce Ngendakumana, explains that there are land disputes between the population of Rural Bujumbura and the city of Bujumbura which need the immediate intervention of the mayor.
The city of Bujumbura has been without a mayor since 14 November 2007 when the former mayor, Elias Buregure, was appointed vice-minister in charge of Public works and equipment. The ruling party and the President of the Republic have tried to have Jean-Marie Rurimirije appointed to this post, but he senate has rejected him twice. Presently, the ruling party is struggling to get another candidate. The name of Cyriaque Barampama has already been leaked.
