Angola: Deputy Minister Highlights Role of Traditional Midwives

Malanje — Angolan deputy Health minister, José Van-Dúnem, Wednesday in northern Malanje province, highlighted the role played by traditional midwives in assisting mothers to deliver with safety.

The official who was speaking at the closing of the first course of midwives specialisation, expressed satisfaction at the fact that this group being upgraded to assist mothers for healthy deliveries.

He also congratulated midwives on their engagement in learning and encouraged future trainees to attend the programmes with dedication.

In his turn, Malanje governor, Cristóvão da Cunha, pledged his government's continued effort to reduce maternal and infant death rates.

The first course of midwives specialisation lasted 18 months, in the areas of reproductive health, to equip trainees with skills to secure an appropriate assistance to delivering mothers.
