Assab

The 2nd regular meeting of the border sub-committees of the Eritrean Southern Red Sea region and the Djiboutian Abok and Tajura zones was held in the town of Assab yesterday.

Following an in-depth assessment of the agreements previously concluded regarding economic, social and other significant issues, the two sides reached an understanding to exert vigorous efforts in the future. Moreover, they agreed to control illegal trade, deforestation, hunting of wild animals and such related activities.

The chairman of the Southern Red Sea region border sub-committee, Mr. Zerai Berhe, indicated that the Eritrea government wishes to provide the people living in the Eritrean-Djiboutian area with adequate services through enhancing close relations between them.

The chairman of the Abok and Tajura border sub-committee, Mr. Humed Ali Omar, on his part expressed goodwill that the year 2008 would witness more work and achievement on the part of the sub-committees.
