Kamya Ssemakula, father to business tycoon Michael Ezra was Wednesday charged in a Makindye court with issuing a bouncing cheque worth over sh18m.

Ssemakula, a resident of Nkumba along Entebbe Road appeared before the Grade One magistrate, William Tumwine who read the charges to him.

He pleaded not guilty and the magistrate released him on a cash bail of sh100, 000, directing him to report back on January 21, 2008.

His sureties, Samuel Busuulwa and presidential advisor, Dr. Lugudde Nabatanzi were bonded with sh1m each not cash.

Kamya was Tuesday arrested and taken to Katwe Police Station where he made a statement.

Court heard that in June 2006, Ssemakula allegedly borrowed sh17m from Emmanuel Mugerwa, a computer dealer in Kampala and pledged to pay back within one month with interest of sh1m. Ssemakula allegedly issued a cheque that bounced.
