Namibia: Omuthiya Local Elections Next Month

Windhoek — The recently proclaimed settlement of Omuthiya south of Ondangwa will elect its first local authority next month.

According to a Government proclamation gazetted last Thursday, political parties will have a chance to submit the names of their candidates on January 28. It is expected that the new political party, Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), will also take part in that election. The election is set for February 29. According to the proclamation, which was signed by President Hifikepunye Pohamba on December 28 2007, Kristofina Udjombala has been appointed as returning officer for the municipal elections.

Supplementary voter registration will take place between February 4 and 8.
