Tamale — One of the most influential youth activists of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region, Mr. Isaac Atasige has expressed concern about the low standard of education in the Kassena-Nankana District, despite the introduction of the capitation grant.
He has therefore challenged all traditional leaders and parents especially those in the deprived communities to take advantage of the Capitation Grant and the Ghana School Feeding Programme and enroll their children particularly the girl child.
Speaking in an interview with The Chronicle as part of his New Year message to the people in the Kassena-Nankana District, Mr. Atasige who was the Northern Sector Campaign Manager for the Former Education Minister, Papa Owusu-Ankomah said, though the District Assembly and the ruling government had maximized school enrolment in the area, there was still the need for the traditional leaders, parents and other stakeholders to complement the efforts of the government to ensure that the youth had become useful to the society.
He observed that only education could prepare the youth of the area to take up any challenge in life and also better their lots. He also assured the people of government continued support to provide more classrooms to accommodate the children in all the rural areas.
He appealed to those preaching falsehood about the Capitation Grant and also inciting the people against the government and its policies to bow out.
According to Atasige, the NPP was very sensitive and committed to the plights of the people in the Kassena-Nankana District hence the creation of the new Navrongo West District out of the Kassena-Nankana.
He indicated that the creation of the new district would not only fast track the socio-economic development of the area, but would also make the running of the entire Navrongo district very smooth. It would also create more job opportunities for the idle youth and women in the district.
The humble but sociable politician on the other hand called for absolute peace, unity and tranquility at all levels in the area, which he said was the only recipe for development.
He assured the people that the new district would widen the government supports for farmers with supply of farm inputs and other materials. More health centres, schools, roads, markets, electricity, potable drinking water would be some of the benefits for the newly created district of Navrongo West . Investors both local and international as well as some NGOs would be attracted to establish in the area.
On the chances of the New Patriotic Party in the Chana-Paga Constituency, Mr. Atasige disclosed that the party was poised to defeat the incumbent National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament in the forthcoming general elections.
He said the NPP had become more attractive and the only alternative for the people in the area due to the numerous developmental projects by the ruling government.
Mr. Atasige therefore called on the party leadership and the youth in particular to take up the challenge of propagating the gospel according to NPP ahead of the elections and win more seats for the party.
