After the first training session with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon some time in October 2007 in Germany, Head Coach, Otto Pfister, effectively, began the second and last phase of his preparation for CAN 2008 on Wednesday, January 9 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
Except Barcelona and indomitable Lions hit man, Samuel Eto'o Fils, the rest of the 28-man squad invited by German-born Pfister, are already in Ouaga.Eto'o's delayance to join his peers has been the handiwork of Barcelona's manager, Frank Rijkaard, who's hesitant because of club's imperatives and Eto'o's newfound scoring spirit since he bounced back from a three-month injury.
A recent understanding between Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, who has been very critical of Rijkaard's attitude and the Bar? A trainer concludes that Eto'o will be joining the Lions' den in Ouaga come Sunday, January 13.
Following CAF's deadline of having all the 23 players of the 16 participating teams today, Wednesday, January 9 before midnight, Cameroonians and enthusiasts of the Lions are looking forward to Pfister's 23 players for CAN 2008 in Ghana.
Which five players will be left out of Pfister's 28 man squad? The answer is blowing in the wind!!While the lions will last in Ouaga up to January 14, they are also expected to play two friendlies; one against a selection of Burkinabe Division One players, Wednesday, January 9 and the other with the Burkinabe Olympic team.
Initially programmed for Kenya, as their preparatory ground, the management of the Lions moved house to Burkina Faso, following violent clashes that erupted after results of the controversial general elections in Kenya were made public.
