The head of Maison Shalom, Ms Marguerite Barankitse, is to be interrogated over the killing of the French aid worker, Ms Agnès Bury. She was summoned by the Public prosecutor in the Centre and East part of Burundi. She should attend the interrogation on 15 January.

Fifteen persons were arrested in connection with the murder of Ms Agnès Bury. They were transferred to Gitega central prison on last Thursday. Four of those who were arrested have however been freed. Those who have been release were caught in possession with weapons but it was later that they had a permission.

Agnes Bury was killed on 31 December 2007 in Sanzu quarter. She worked for a aid agency, Action Contre la Faim, which brought assistance to the poor in providing them food and seeds. After this killing, this nongovernmental organisation has temporarily suspended its activities in Burundi.

Maison Shalom is also in Ruyigi. It provides assistance to children orphaned by the war that spanned for almost 13 years in Burundi.
