Tuesday, January 15, testimonies of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) ongoing public hearings came from some of those considered as former top players in the gruesome national conflict.
Joshua Milton Blayee, an ex-fighter of the defunct ULIMO-J, and referred to as General Butt Naked, stunned the nation when he disclosed that a juju pot has been buried in the vicinity of the Executive Mansion for the essence of providing maximal protection to the Executive and the President Samuel Kanyon Doe.
He revealed that the jujupot was planted in 1983 by him and some elders possessing demonic powers of Grand Gedeh County through the traditional and cultural powers of the devils of the Putu Mountain.
Blayee became notorious during the villainous April 6, 1996 Monrovia fighting between fighters from ULIMO-K and NPFL, then loyal to the Council of State and fighters of the defunct ULIMO-J, then headed by the late Roosevelt Johnson.
He told the TRC and Liberians at large that he was chief priest of the devil he called "Ajagbehweh" which he claimed is based in the Putu Mountain; he buried a medicine pot in the Executive Mansion.
Putu Mountain is located in Grand Gedeh County. Joshua, now an Evangelist, said the pot is still buried at the Executive Mansion and that it would only be removed through what he called "spiritual warfare" provided the TRC gives the go ahead.
Apart from the revelation of the planting demonic pot in the Mansion, Blayee also claims he took away the lives of about 20, 000 innocent people from 1983 to the time of the war he said he by then 11 years of age. Former General Butt Naked said he did so in his capacity as the chief priest of Krahn tribe.
On the question of how he became part of the war and how he came to Monrovia, he said was brought to Monrovia along with Oldman Jayswen, Apollo Jayswen's father, and oldman Tayleh in 1990 to provide spiritual protection and spiritually direct the war in the interest of the Krahns, but he became an active fighter with the formation of ULIMO in 1992.
"We lost power of the demonic authority in the Putu Mountain thus weakening the Krahn people prior to the death of President Samuel K. Doe," he reflected.
Evangelist Blayee who appealed to all Liberians through the TRC for forgiveness, said he had begun an initiative to deliver Liberia from the control of the spiritual forces in the Putu Mountain where the Flag and the Seal of Liberia had been buried over the past decades.
He said on August 22, 2007, a crusade and prayer service were held after which he decided to go to the Putu Mountain to perform and proclaim the blood of Jesus Christ as a means of destroying the spiritual forces that he and his tribesmen sold Liberia to at the time.
Apparently as a means of fostering reconciliation, Evangelist Blayee said through his initiatives, about 50 hardened criminals from former warring factions who have accepted Christ are currently under his tutelage preaching the gospel to their friends in Monrovia.
Also testifying, witness M. Allen Nicholas, a former NPFL fighter, revealed that the Carter Camp Massacre was the work of NPFL. He said the fighters that carried on the mission were led by the late Nelson Gaye.
If his claims are accepted, then they are a vindication of the defunct Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) which was held responsible for massacre. A committee set up to probe the massacre, the WACO's Committee, held the AFL culpable for the massacre.
With his narration, it has now been established that the NPFL was fully behind the gruesome murder of civilians. Nicholas, alias Gen. Arab Devil, also said the NPFL was responsible for the Duport Road Massacre. According to him, those who carried the mission bypassed ECOMOG before getting to Duport Road.
He said he did'ot come to the Duport Rd. raid but he was aware of the plan. He said the mission was led by late General Dwana. Now saved through the help of former General Butt Naked, he said had planned to chop to death any four top officials of the NPP-led government because they abandoned.
"On the 22, August 2007, I planned to kill any four former NPFL and NPP officials who were enjoying life; but two days later, I met the former Gen. Butt Naked, Evangelist Blayee on the 24, August of 2007 and he led me to Christ.
He also won about 50 other fighters, founding members of "Issakaba Boys" to Christ", Nicholas confessed. Like many others, he appealed for forgiveness from all Liberians.
