Mochudi — The Kgatleng District Council (KDC) has raised P14. 6 million for the Recurrent Budget for the financial year 2008/2009 to supplement the Revenue Support Grant of P115 million from the Ministry of Local Government, Gilbert Mangole, the head of the finance committee of the KDC told a Special Full Council Meeting last week Monday.
"This is an increase (of) P4 million from the previous financial year, which was P10.4 million," Mangole said. But Mangole said this is not enough: "We are still far in generating our own income as council." The money was raised from two sources - bank interest on accounts held by the KDC or interest on own deposits (IOD) and water fees and housing rentals.
IOD generated P6.6 million, which represents 45 percent, water fees P2.8 million, housing rentals with P2.4 million and the rest is from other sources.
The council will use P129 million, of which P67 million or 51.8 percent will go to salaries and wages. "This is because there are 44 posts which have been created this financial year," Mangole said. "(For instance) we are going to have two deputy council secretaries."For the last financial year, the KDC had a total recurrent budget of P96 million, which means the P129 million for the 2008/2009 financial year is an increase of P33 million or 35 percent. Clinical services received the second largest share of P23.5 million or 20 percent of the total budget, which will cater for the purchasing of equipment for the Mathubudukwane Clinic, which is still under construction. "The money will also cater for the soon-to-be-constructed clinic in Oodi," Mangole said.
The money will also be used to purchase physiotherapy equipment which will be placed at Boseja Clinic in Mochudi. The equipment wil be used by the council physiotherapist currently based at Deborah Retief Memorial Hospital (DRM). The water department also got P15.8 million, which represents 12 percent of the budget. The money will be partly used for water connections to homes and businesses.
The secretariat also got P15.8 million, Education P13 million, while Social and Community Development (S&CD) and Transport each received P11 million.
