Potable water supply problems in Gash-Barka region have now been eased following the implementation of 41 projects at a cost of over 180 million Nakfa, according to Mr. Tekie Keleta, in charge of infrastructure in the region.

He indicated that in line with the efforts being made to provide potable water supply to citizens in remote areas, especially to displaced ones, over 31 km-long water pipelines have been installed, as well as water tankers and distribution stations constructed.

Mr. Tekie further pointed out that four water distribution stations in the sub-zones of Haikota, Laelai-Gash and Mensura that were damaged by excessive floods have been repaid at an expenditure of about 1.2 million Nakfa. Different wells have also been dug in the administrative areas of Telogamja, Anagule, Omahajer and Aiterfan.

He also stated that new elementary schools have been built in Koferienko and Samunait, in addition to the construction of kindergartens in the sub-zones of Golij, Tebeldia and Gerset.
