Assab

The Southern Red Sea Regional Assembly held its 7th regular meeting from January 17 to 18 in the city of Assab.

Following a close assessment of work accomplishments in the political, economic and social domains, the Assembly adopted a number of resolutions and recommendations, including the stepping up of the implementation of development and infrastructure programs, promoting literacy campaigns and raising the awareness of the society in regards to vaccination programs, among others.

The Administrator of the region, Mrs. Tsigereda Weldegergish, indicated that the implementation of potable water supply projects in remote areas, the introduction of solar and wind-powered electricity supply, the construction of new elementary schools and the boosting of fisheries activities are some of the programs scheduled to be undertaken in 2008.

Urging parents to send their children-especially females-to school, the Administrator called on women to take active participation in national development programs.
