Nigeria: Elephants Kill 5 in Zamfara

Zamfara — Five people were said to have lost their lives in Sububu village of Maradun Local Government when a dozen destructive elephants invaded the village last week.

Also destroyed by the elephants were properties, particularly farm produce worth millions of naira, which included millet, guinea-corn, rice and beans belonging to the residents of the village.

The hungry elephants who stormed the village of Sububu, Faru Tsibiri and other nearby villages were also said to have devastated the whole area, especially where farm produce were kept by the farmers.

According to investigation conducted by Leadership, it was gathered that the elephants, instantly killed the said people after they have made attempts to stop them from crossing or invading the village.

The village Head of Sububu, Alhaji Mu'azu Dansa'a told Leadership that they for long have not been safe, "because it has become our fate, that every year these elephants will come and will not go away until al least one or two people are killed", he said.
