Angola: Over 100 Anti-Tank Mines Deactivated

Ondjiva — About 128 anti-tank landmines and 262 anti-personnel ones, as well as 24,761 other kinds of non-detonated explosive devices were deactivated last year, in the southern Cunene Province, on Tuesday informed to ANGOP Mário Satipamba, an official with the action against landmines programme in this region.

The official disclosed that those devices were found in the municipalities of Namacunde, Kwanhama, Curoca, Cuvelai, Ombadja e Kahama, which resulted in a clearance work of an area of 32,099 square metres.

During the demining work 14 accidents were recorded.

Mário Satipamba also informed that this activity was carried out by the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), the National Demining Institute (INAD), as well as the firms Rocand, Sedita and MGM.

He added that several awareness campaigns were carried out for the people to know the dangers of these devices and adopt the necessary preventive measures.
