Ekanem — Former Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has met the bail condition given him Monday by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos. Fayose is facing a 51-count charge of fraud and money laundering before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.
But for the absence of the presiding judge in the matter, Justice Tijani Abubakar, who did not sit yesterday because he had to travel to Abuja, Fayose would have been released from Ikoyi Prison, Lagos, where he has been detained since his arraignment early in the month.
It is likely however, that he will regain his freedom today, as the judge will sign the warrant for his release, having met the bail condition.
Justice Abubakar, had on Monday while admitting Fayose to bail, ordered him to provide two sureties, who will deposit a bond of N50million each, which they will be forfeit in the event that he (Fayose) jumps bail.
The two sureties according to the court must swear to an affidavit of means and must own landed property in Lagos, in addition to providing the Certificate of Occupancy of the said properties.
The court also ordered that Fayose should deposit his travel documents and must not travel outside the country without informing the court.
Vanguard could however, not confirm the identity of those who stood sureties for Fayose as at press time.
Meanwhile, Fayose is to appear in court today, at the resumed hearing in the murder case against him, before an Ekiti High State Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti.
The Ekiti State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Gboyega Oyewole, had disclosed that the Controller General of Prisons had assured him that the former governor would be brought to court today.
It would be recalled that a murder charge was filed against Fayose by the Ekiti State government early in the month and further hearing in the matter was adjourned till today. The murder charge which first came up on January 9, 2008 before Justice Cornilous Akintayo, which also issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Fayose, was adjourned till today.
