Assab

The Central Council of the National Union of Eritrean Women (NUEW) held its 7th regular meeting in the city of Assab from January 22 to 23.

Following discussions on the annual work reports, the Council took note of the encouraging accomplishments registered as regards improving the health condition of women among other related issues. It also stressed the need for undertaking extensive campaigns to promote the importance of child delivery in health centers and to combat early marriage.

Noting the significance of carrying out vigorous efforts to organize women under the umbrella of NUEW, the Central Council called on all concerned parties to work diligently, in collaboration with the Union, towards boosting the number of women in leadership in elections at the community level and at the regional assembly level.

Moreover, the meeting adopted resolutions and recommendations, including the need to take the necessary steps to overcome obstacles that women are facing in pursuing their education. Other resolutions adopted include the organizing of special training programs aimed at nurturing future women leaders, and setting up a center where women can have access to information and counseling, in addition to sharing experience. The Central Council also asserted that women contributions in stepping up national development programs and safeguarding the nation's sovereignty is still intact.
