Information reaching us from Ugandan-born US-based promoter Suudi Lukwago is that Ugandans will spend the Easter holiday with celebrated international music star Akon.
In a phone conversation with 24-Seven, Suudi, also proprietor of US-based promotions company, Suudi Entertainment International confirmed that he has already booked Akon to be in Uganda over the Easter weekend. "All I need now is a potential promotions company that can organise the Akon shows in Uganda," Suudi said.
He also said he has already booked 17-year- old Beautiful Girls singer, Sean Kingston for a couple of concerts in May. "Suudi is a professional and I've always delivered what I promise. Akon and Sean Kingston (pic) have to be in Uganda," Suudi said.
Meanwhile, Suudi distanced himself from Majo Promotions, the promotions company he worked with to bring in Brick and Lace for the end of year concert and even accused them of lack of professionalism.
"I was just a Brick and Lace booking agent, I am not part of Majo Promotions, Majo is owned by Mark Zziwa. I helped them organise the show, but they cheated me of over Shs150m and so many other people that worked at the shows were not paid," Suudi said.
Juliana, Tigan in new wheels
It goes without saying that 2007 was such a good year for both diva Juliana Kanyomozi and new kid on the block, Henry Tigan (pic).
With Kibaluma still the hit everyone wants to dance to, Juliana has reason to flaunt what she has reaped from the hit. So sometime last week, Juliana went ahead and rewarded herself for the hard work she did in 2007.
The singer shipped in a brand new pearl white Toyota Harrier model 2007. And this is no ordinary harrier, it was built specifically for Juliana and it has left people on Kampala streets wondering what car it is as it came with a unique sporty body kit. Like anybody else, Juliana was so excited at her own reward; she spent the entire weekend partying with friends.
Meanwhile, 2007/8 Pam best new artiste, Henry Tigan also dropped off the pedestrians' list by purchasing himself a Toyota Carib registration no UAG 039W. However, considering he has never attended any driving lessons, he's using his road manager for a driver. Congratulations Tigan and Juliana.
Emma strikes again
If you asked artistes to suggest a name for a dangerous hurricane, chances are high that most of them would tell you, "Emma Serugo..." This organiser of concerts is not as deadly as a hurricane but he sure leaves many artistes weeping.
He is the lad who wanted to illicitly sell Chameleone's house and even brought him grave debts that saw him end up in court last year. Like a strong wind, whenever Serugo strikes, many are left devastated. And this time round, his victims include Bebe Cool, Nameless, Nazizi, Eagles Production, Sweet Kid and Kid Fox.
The story is that Bebe Cool hired Serugo to help him organise the Leavers Bash at Steak Out and Didi's World last weekend.
But he disappeared with money collected from both concerts and now whoever performed is breathing fire on Bebe Cool.
"Emma rang me saying that he left Didi's after some people tried to steal the money," said Bebe Cool, "But until now, I haven't seen him yet all artistes want their pay. I'll show him what I'm made of if he doesn't bring that money."
Obsessions, Bebe Cool face off
24-Seven is aware that Obsessions' Remmy Lubega is set to bring in Beenie Man to perform during the Obsessions' anniversary scheduled for Easter Sunday but Bebe Cool is also in touch with the same artiste for his album launch scheduled for the same day.
24-Seven has talked to both parties and each of them claims to have contacted Beenie Man before the other. Lubega said that Bebe Cool is just trying to push him. Well, we also don't know where to stand.
Michael Ross, Tindatiine an item
Call us voyeuristic mites who like sticking our oars in, if you so wish, but we just enjoy watching relationships kick-start as others get halted...
And how fortunate for us that there are several celebrities taking part in this game we love to watch. The latest to enter the game are Lady Mariam (Tindatiine) and Michael Ross.
24-Seven has spotted the pair cosily holding hands and a source has told us that they normally hang out at a "hidden" guest house in Ntinda. And it isn't the first time this piece of gossip has floated our way as the pair was said to have shared a room while on a music tour in Hoima recently. Tindatiine has also split with her boyfriend cum manager Hussein, due to irreconcilable misunderstandings.
Moses Radio graduates
January has simply been a great month for the Jose Chameleone-led Leone Island crew. The previous week, Chameleone held the Katupakase concerts. This was followed by his official introduction by longtime lover Daniela Atim to her parents last weekend.
And now news from the Leone Island headquarters in Seguku is that the next event is slated for January 29 when Leone Island will celebrate attaining its first ever university graduate.
Mellow vocalist Moses Radio, also Chameleone's official back up singer, will be among the thousands of students to be awarded degrees at Makerere University. Radio is set to graduate with a bachelor's degree in community psychology.
Sylvia Owori gets her groove back
Some people look at early motherhood as a harrowing experience. Sylvia Owori is not one of them. Despite the fact that she dropped a tot a few months ago, the fashion designer still has energy to drop it like it's hot on the dance floor.
Well, don't argue if you were not at Club Silk for the MTN-organised UB40 fans party, because it is where Owori proved to still be a strong party animal.
Owori was beside herself with joy and she screamed on top of her voice as she shook what her mama gave her during a dance competition that MTN held for revellers to win airtime.
She did the paka chini paka juu routine amidst applause from the audience. We also overheard her telling her protégé Brenda Nanyonjo how she has been missing club life. Now that is the Owori we know and love. She surely has an antidote for those dreary mothers who we hear only think of early morning feeds, changing diapers and so forth.
