The MRC rebel group operates in the Ituri province and is led by a dissident army general, Kakolere Bwambale.

The group is also allied to Gen. Laurent Nkunda. The arrested men were identified as Lt. Col. Karate Aloro, Maj. Abdallah Kamali, Tseni Raymond, the group's secretary general, Upar Musa, Masuudi Luju, Mustafa Mateso, Iyamba Cavadese and Idi Mwanafumu. They were handed over to Majors Zephrin Lwaba and Kotsi Birotso, of the Congolese army.
