Nigeria/Mali: I Want to Play Against Mali - Kanu

25 January 2008

The inclusion of Super Eagles' captain, Kanu Nwankwo in Monday's Group B opening match which Nigeria lost to Cote d Ivoire despite visibly limping before the match, drew a lot of reactions against the technical crew.

But after Wednesday's training session, Kanu Nwankwo, has signified interest to start today's game against the Eagles of Mali.

But fielding Kanu Nwankwo, according to Leadership Sports findings, will depend on the medical team's fitness report. They are still working on him ahead of today's all important clash. Despite the critism by a cross section of Nigerians decrying the fielding of Kanu Nwankwo against the Ivorians, the Portsmouth player is hopeful to be on duty today when they file out against Mali reactions within the camp of Nigerian fans indicate that they wish the Super Eagles captain would be rested since the team has enough replacements on the bench due to his injury.

Arguments here in Sekondi, Ghana is that this is a match that is as important as the first we lost and any attempt to gamble using half fit players may just see Nigeria repeat Monday's unfortunate situation. The charge here on Berti Vogts is to rely on 100% fit Players.
