Parks and recreation department, Abuja Metropolitan Management Agency (AMMA) has banned the sale of alcohol by operators of green parks in the FCT.

In a statement signed by the director, parks and recreation, Isa M. Shu'aibu, operators and owners of green parks found in the promotion of alcholism and women trafficking shall forfeit their parks.

He said the managment of the department has viewed with seriousness, the continuous sale of alcohol and the promotion of call girls at night, by green parks managers, saying that AMMA would not hesitate to revoke allocations of defaulters.

Accordingly, the director had convened a meeting with stakeholders, where he emphasised on moral standards , and observed that their operation was further corrupting the values in the society, as well as the youths.

Isa disclosed that the Federal Capital Territory Administration is at the verge of reforming the parks and recreation to make it more efficient and vibrant in keeping the city of Abuja clean and of world standard.

Explaining further, he posited that green parks are not allocated for personal use, saying that most parks operators have converted the green areas into workplace and other personal use that is at variant with the law establishing parks.

Continuing, " parks are originally created as public recreation centres, where residents in the FCT are expected to relax, especially children who may want to spend their weekends at such centres for game".

"However, the park is refocusing at improving the status of the existing parks and create new ones that would serve the increasing number of people that move into the FCT daily, so, there must be expansion," he contended.
