News that the government plans to introduce a social policy where money would be distributed to the extreme poor has drawn mixed reactions across the political divide.

A lot of meanings have been read into it; with many critics saying the policy is nothing short of a political gimmick to woo voters. Whatever the intentions of government for introducing it and whatever meanings the opposition are reading it, the fact remains that, there is extreme poverty among a large percentage of the Ghanaian population.
