Burundi: National Assembly Meets to Elect Regional Members of Parliament

28 January 2008

Members of the parliament did not meet yesterday and today's meeting did not reach quorum. Today, 79 MPs of the 79 that are needed attended the session.

Members of the parliament had put aside the issue that divided them in the previous extraordinary session, namely the setup of a special parliamentarian commission to look into the disagreements that arose in talks between the government of Burundi and PALIPEHUTU-FNL. Recently, the vice-minister in charge of regional integration, Vénérand Bakevyumusaya, said that Burundi is late in approving the ratification of the amendments of the East-African community's laws. Burundi's Consumers Association to lodge a charge against Brarudi company
