A guard who was manning Mr Were's gate said he heard the MP hoot followed shortly by gun shots.

"I climbed over the gate and saw two people holding guns. I screamed for help and it was then that they disappeared," the guard told journalists. He then looked over and saw the MP lying beside his car.

Mr Kiraithe appealed for any member of the public who might have information that would assist detectives solve the murder to step forward and offer it.

The police spokesman said they would allow any interested parties to either join the police or to conduct parallel investigations in the interest of arresting the culprits.

Hon. Were's killings is purely political ASSASINATION.Having won in Embakasi costituency and competitors taking a petition against in court clearly shows that he was really being trailed. Therefore all his competitors must tell Kenyans what they know about this cold blood murder. What iam seeing in Kenya right now i dont believe peace will be sustained unless a presidential re run takes place, failure to this more violence and distruction of property is expected . Honourable Mugabe Were"s killing is a polical murderwhich the gorvernment, through the police must thoroughly investigate and non partisanly deal with failure that will lead to similar killings by those who did it even on key members like Reila Odinga and even Mwai Kibaki himself which will possibly lead to worsening the political situation emanating from from the widely disputed elections. We want PEACE in Kenya like any ather country.

Due to Hon.Were's death Annan should postpone all his mediation process as chaos has erupted freshly again in Kenya and more deaths are reported. Kibaki and his cronies has led to loss of lives just of hyena kind of selfish interests. At one time all this leaders will account for this.I remember Dr.Mbai a former ODM associate murdered in 2005 at the same Woodley Estate where Hon.Were was murdered.(Obande)

Contrary to what you have asserted in resignation, it is imeperative that voices of reason must prevail and mediation continue. Although I would say that Mr Annan should call all for reconciliation and peace. He must also urge both sides to call for peace and stop and demonstrations and recriminations. Let there be peace for the greater good of Kenya and its people.

It is very sad indeed to see political assasination startinng at this stage when the country is still polarised and people are still searching for the truth. The perpetrators of this hineous act are the people who still want to see Kenya lagging in this stalemate. It is surely a matter of the goverment killing for numbers in parliament.
